Leapy worked for many years in local government, and more latterly, the fire service. His primary leisure interests were antiques and tennis. He played league tennis, coached tennis, and organised charity events.
Life changed, and it was a major shock to him, when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 1995. His sporting activity ceased, and he struggled to come to terms with this bolt out of the blue!
The MS condition was then later further compounded by unfortunately experiencing two strokes. When the time was right, his wife Jane suggested he join an art and pottery class…
As Leapy says “It was the best move I could have done. I enjoyed the company of group members and developed my own abstract style: very quirky, individual in style, but also great FUN [in capital letters!]. I hope you enjoy my work as much as I do – it’s certainly different!!”
Leapy believes his artistic practice provides a focus in his life, and a validated and productive creative outlet. He has been and remains prolific to this day.
